AWS Community Day Australia is a free full day event on August 30, 2019.
This is dedicated to our community throughout Australia and New Zealand. It is built for the community and by AWS Community Heroes. We strive to create this as a diverse and inclusive event to welcome everyone to an engaging day of learning, building, connecting and sharing together.
This event showcases builders, innovators and leaders throughout Australia at different points in their journey as builders. Sessions will focus on AI, Machine Learning, Serverless, Containers and much more. We also have half day workshops running for builders who want to focus on Alexa or Deep Racer.
As the second large scale community event in Australia, we are keen to inspire, educate and connect different communities of developers, IT leaders, university students and innovators together. And yes their will be plenty of opportunity for networking and staying in touch.
But wait, what if you can’t get to Melbourne?
Don’t worry, we are live-streaming the event, with watch parties throughout Australia, in service of making this event as borderless as possible.
We are also offering a limited number of sponsored scholarships for travel to the event. Click here to apply.
As Chief Evangelist for the Amazon Web Services, Jeff gets to tell the AWS story to audiences all over the world. Jeff talks, blogs, record videos, and spreads the word via social media.
His main work product is the AWS Blog which he has been writing since the fall of 2004. In this role, Jeff works with the product teams to create interesting, informative, and technically accurate blog posts to highlight the latest and greatest AWS offerings. Jeff has written over 2,500 posts (well over a million words) and currently averages one finished post per calendar day.
Jeff is also the host of The AWS Report, a video show that gives me the opportunity to interview AWS customers, along with business and technical leaders from within the company.
Creating Voice Experiences with Amazon Alexa Skills:
Idea to Testing in 3 hours
Amazon Alexa is Amazon’s cloud-based voice service and the brain behind tens of millions of devices enabling new customer experiences across many devices at home, work, in the car, and on the go. As a developer, you can build capabilities, or skills, that make Alexa smarter and make everyday tasks faster, easier, and more delightful for customers to fundamentally improve the way people will interact with technology. In this workshop you will learn how to build your first voice skill with Amazon Alexa.
We will cover how to build an Alexa skill, utilise AWS services such as AWS Lambda and Amazon DynamoDB, mimic human behaviour with your Alexa skill, and test and publish a skill. You’ll also walk out of the workshop with tips on how to make your Alexa skill more engaging to customers with voice user design best practices. Come prepared with at least 10 facts on your favourite topic, as we’ll show you how to create and publish your Alexa fact skill to the Australia and New Zealand Skills Store during the day.
This workshop requires you to bring a fully charged laptop, an Alexa Developer account (create one here), and administrative access to your own AWS account.
CONNECT, LEARN, and BUILD
There are sessions in this day that will resonate with everyone. From whether you are looking for a half day deep dive with Alexa, join our Deep Racer League, to keynote sessions about the journey of AWS, to technical sessions with customer stories, and real world examples from our community of builders.
This event is for builders, learners and doers. We welcome everyone to join us, regardless of where they are on their journey in technology. Our day is built with something for everyone- from the person just starting out, to the seasoned engineer, to the business owner who wants to learn more, to university students thinking about next steps in their career.
